DISTRICT CHAMPIONS: Congratulations to the Year 10 Rounders team, who won the District Tournament at Weston Road on Monday. They remained unbeaten in their section, beating amongst others, Stafford Grammar. In the final they met Abbots Bromley, who had also been unbeaten. We won 6-3 thanks, in particular, to some fantastic fielding. The team was led brilliantly by Kate Woodhams.

Year 7 & 8 Rounders: The Year 7 and Year 8 Rounders teams played their return match against Codsall Middle on Thursday. Due to the great British weather we were forced to play indoors, since Codsall Middle players fell on the grass in the warm-up. The Year 8 team took advantage of the indoor conditions in the first match, desperate to finish their final match against Codsall Middle on a win. Year 8 elected to field first and with speedy bowling from Imogen Wellsbury, Codsall found it difficult to make contact with the ball. When they did, Year 8’s fielding stopped Codsall scoring. When Year 8 went in to bat in their second innings, they only needed 3½ rounders to win after scoring 7 in their first innings, when Codsall found our indoor conditions very difficult. Year 8 seriously wanted to take the win and 3 of our 4 biggest hitters from the first innings put on their glasses to ensure there was no way they would miss. It all worked and the team batted with confidence and took the match 13½-10 rounders. A huge well done to the girls on this very important match. Year 7 followed with their match. After a very close match last half term Year 7 felt confident they could really challenge Codsall. After an excellent first innings fielding only letting 3½ rounders by with great team work and catching especially from the two Brittanys. Our girls went in to bat, but with so much enthusiasm they didn’t play it safe enough, finishing on 2½ with a lot of our best hitters getting out. However, in the second innings the girls matched Codsall every step of the way with confident hitting from Olivia Appleby and Shiori Tameshi. The match went down to the final ball, with Elle Leak scoring ½ rounder on the final bat. Unfortunately it was not enough this time, with our girls ending on 5½-6 rounders. Year 7 were disappointed with their result but very happy with their performance. Well done girls.
