28 Feb 08 - Yrs 7 to 12 Gifted & Talented Trip to see '39 Steps'
What a wonderful show! Staff and students alike were captivated by this impressive performance at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre! A group of four actors took on all of the roles to fantastic effect! They used innovative drama techniques and engaged the audience in the complicated plot effectively. Whether or not you were familiar with the Hitchcock original, this was a truly impressive piece of theatre. All of the students were undoubtedly enriched by the play and could not stop talking about the fantastic set changes, lighting effects and acting.
27 Feb 08 - Year 12 Trip to Upton Warren - Outward Bounds
The day was essentially organised for pupils taking A’ Level Sports Studies, to aid in their understanding of the benefits of Outdoor Education and Recreation. Due to our small class sizes at St Dominic’s it was decided to invite other Year 12's to attend due to the links with ‘Key Skills’. Pupils will have the chance to problem solve, work as teams and lead others, all essential skills for life.
Year 12 therefore experienced the benefits of Outdoor recreation for themselves at Upton Warren Outdoor Centre with some very memorable moments.
The photos below show the A-Level PE group trying their Outdoor and Adventurous skills at the Worcestershire Outdoor Education Centre in Upton Warren.
February Half Term - Ski Trip to Les Deux Alpes, France.
Eighteen girls embarked on a fantastic trip to this beautiful French resort. The skiing conditions were perfect all week - glorious sunshine. We ate our lunch on the piste twice to enjoy the wonderful weather. The accomodation was good and the other school staying in the hotel had lovely staff and pupils. Every girl progressed at least one level in skiing expertise. Evening entertainment included a quiz, ice skating, disco and many more fun filled activities. This was a truly memorable week with excellent skiing and socialising opportunities - we are looking forward to visiting the resort again in two years time.
2 Jan 08 - Trip to see 'King Lear'
Year 12 English enrichment trip – 6 pupils, R Mason and J Nield.
King Lear played by Sir Ian McKellen. Cast included William Gaunt and Frances Barker.
This enrichment trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the A/S Level English Literature students. Despite an early start and long journey in cold conditions, the girls were inspired by this performance. The lead role was beautifully executed and the girls gained some excellent ideas for their coursework pieces. An outstanding performance with impressive sets, costumes and interpretation of Shakespearean words.
Purpose of the trip: to enhance our knowledge of the play after reading the text. Amazing set and excellent special effects – brought the text to life. The hanging of the fool and Gloucester’s eye gauging were particularly effective. The theme of madness was well represented by key characters. Ian McKellen was captivating and engaged the audience effectively. Trevor Nunn had directed the play so that Cordelia had an unexpected role which challenged our existing views. The other two sisters were very vivid and memorable. The choreography of the sword fighting was amazing. The interpretation of the role of the fool made the character both funny and sad. We were all captivated and enthralled by the tragedy on the stage. An outstanding production which all the Girls enjoyed.
