About us

St Dominic’s H.S.G. was established in 1920 by the Dominican nuns and became a charitable trust in 1975. It is now the leading independent school in Staffordshire for girls aged 3 to 18 and boys aged 3 to 7.

Our Independent Schools Inspection in March 2007 rated us to be outstanding in many areas.  The Inspectors said:

"The pupils at St. Dominic's receive an outstandingly broad, balanced and diverse education. The School has placed every child matters at the heart of everything it does. Academic and pastoral provision is integrated throughout every stage of the School. Pupils' personal development is also outstanding, with every child encouraged to develop in mind, body and spirit."

At the heart of the school is the belief in the development of the ‘whole person’ and we help each child to realise their own talents and gifts, so that they may achieve their full potential within a caring environment. We aim to develop the pupils academically, socially, creatively and spiritually and can boast a 100% pass rate at GCSE for 9 consecutive years. Our Sixth Form students who took ‘A’ levels in summer 2009 achieved a 98.4% pass rate, with all who applied to University being offered a place.

Academic

Small class sizes facilitate individual attention and enable teachers to build a profile of each pupil. The enhanced curriculum delivered allows some students to be fast tracked at GCSE level and gives excellent value-added, with pupils exceeding expectations based on their initial entrance assessment.

There are dedicated IT suites, Home Economics room, science laboratories, Art, Design and Technology rooms which all encourage independent and investigative learning.

Expressive Arts

St. Dominic’s H.S.G. is renowned for its musical and dramatic excellence. Our new Performing Arts Centre houses a Drama and Dance Studio, a Music Suite and a Recording Studio.

Girls are encouraged to join the choirs, play and instrument, take up dance or singing or tread the boards. Throughout the year there are a variety of performances ranging from the Christmas production to the all-singing and all dancing productions of Bugsy Malone and The Sound of Music.

The school also has a very strong Art & Design department, enabling students to study Art & Textiles to GCSE and ‘A’ level.

Sports

The girls are offered a wide range of interesting sports including netball, hockey, gymnastics and football.

Our all inclusive extra-curricular programme provides further sporting variety and includes Kung fu and trampolining, with all abilities encouraged to attend.

The sports facilities include a modern, fully-equipped sports hall, newly resurfaced and extended netball and tennis courts and playing fields which include a hockey pitch, athletics track, football and rounders pitches. These have enabled the girls to compete very successfully with other schools in sporting events, with teams and individuals walking away with top prizes, including girls representing the county and country at their chosen sport.
