This year’s whole school musical at St Dominic’s School was a stunning production of ‘The Sound of Music’ by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
There were 6 performances in all which involved over 80 girls between the ages of 8 and 17.
The school was buzzing with excitement about the show not only because of the recent TV hit ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’ but also because ex-pupil Sophie Bould, who was recently invited to open the new Sixth Form and Performing Arts centre at St Dominic’s, went on to play the role of Liesl in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revival in the West End.
Enthusiasm for Performing Arts is very high at St Dominic’s with many experienced and talented pupils participating in summer schools, such as the ‘Sylvia Young’ and ‘West End Stage’ schools and the National Youth Music Theatre.
Some of our ‘The Sound of Music’ cast have already made professional theatre and TV appearances: Emma Robinson (Von Trapp); Bethany Clews (Liesl); Mia-Jay Clarson (Maria) and Kristal Watkins (Abbess) in programmes such as ‘Bonkers’, ‘Waterloo Road’ and ‘Doctors’. Eve Crawford , who is featured as a dancer in the show is a member of the English Youth Ballet.
The hills really did come alive with fabulous scenery, costumes and a live band playing to over 600 people.
