Christmas Fayre and Firework Spectacular

The Christmas Fayre and Firework Spectacular was held on Saturday 8th December 2007.  The event proved to be a great success and it was lovely to see so many girls helping to run the stalls and singing in the Choir.  The fireworks were spectacular - a fitting finish to the Fayre.  The Friends of St Dominic's would like to thank everyone who attended, helped and supported the event.

The 'Raise a Grand' Ball

The Friends organised a magnificent 'Raise a Grand' Ball that took place on Saturday 13th October 2007. The evening was a spectacular success and a good time was had by all. All proceeds raised on the evening will go towards the purchase of a Grand Piano to take pride of place in our brand new Sixth Form and Performing Arts centre. The Friends reached and exceeded their target and Simon Woodhams, the Chairman of the Friends, would like to thank all who were involved with making the event such an all round success.

Senior Prize-giving 18th September 2007

Senior pupils’ achievements were acknowledged at a prize-giving evening held on Tuesday 18th September 2007.  New Sixth Form girls were presented with scrolls outlining their GCSE achievements.  Many additional prizes and trophies were awarded, including The Spirit of St Dominic’s Awards.

100% GCSE for 7th Year

Pupils and staff of St Dominic’s School are celebrating their 7th consecutive year where all pupils passed their GCSE examinations with 5 or more A* to C grades.

Headteacher Sandra White said “We are absolutely delighted that we have again achieved a 100% pass rate for a record breaking 7th consecutive year.  Congratulations to all of the pupils and staff here at St Dominic’s, they have all worked extremely hard and deserve this success.”

The school credits this incredible continued success to their philosophy of individual development and continual progression of students within small class sizes, with highly trained and dedicated staff and pastoral care in a single sex environment.

Sandra White continues “I have long believed that single sex education is preferable.  Research has consistently shown that girls in particular benefit from a single-sex environment and achieve consistently high examination results. They participate more in lessons and have higher self esteem and self confident. Get that right and the academic success follows”.

MP Helps Pupils' Fly the Flag

St Dominic’s School in Brewood received a visit from their local MP, Sir Patrick Cormack, to help the school celebrate being accredited with the Investor in People Standard.

The standard, developed in 1990 to help organisations improve performance and realise objectives through the management and development of their people, is highly regarded across all organisations and sectors.

The schools assessment included interviewes with Governors, teaching staff, and the support team, and the Investor in People Report concluded ‘The school is well established and demonstrated a number of ‘good practice’ approaches to staff development, encouragement and retention, including a strong ‘all team’ approach to ensuring a high quality of service delivery to both staff and pupils’.

Headteacher Sandra White said “We are delighted that Sir Patrick could join us in celebrating this achievement and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all St Dominic’s employees for their contribution in achieving this standard and look forward to our continual improvement and development”.

Sir Patrick Cormack, MP for South Staffordshire and a Member of Parliament since 1970, enjoyed being given a tour of the schools Infant department by pupils Molly Loftus, aged 4 and Sally Griffiths, aged 3 before helping them raise the Investor in People flag.
