The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programme offers able pupils the opportunity to be challenged by extra activities and work in class.
Pupils are nominated by staff and included on the GATE register. Nominations are based on a variety of examination results in School and general attainment in class. Some pupils are nominated for more than one curriculum area. The register includes pupils from across the whole School.
Every year St. Dominic's runs a Gifted and Talented summer school. Past activities have included making a film, first aid, a trip and workshop at The Globe Theatre, architecture workshop, Wolverhampton Art Gallery visit, forensic scientists activities at the Think Tank '@ Bristol' and drama activities with Highly Sprung. We aim to cater for all talents in a stimulating way by inviting in visitors and specialists, as well as going on visits.
Activities organised during school time have included visits to the theatre, a session with a poet, a workshop with Birmingham's Poet Laureate, a trip to the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and a scince workshop at Birmingham University. Over the years we have organised some of these activities with able pupils from other schools.
