Spring Term 2008

27 Feb 08 - Year 12 Trip to Upton Warren - Outward Bounds

The day was essentially organised for pupils taking A’ Level Sports Studies, to aid in their understanding of the benefits of Outdoor Education and Recreation. Due to our small class sizes at St Dominic’s it was decided to invite other Year 12's to attend due to the links with ‘Key Skills’. Pupils will have the chance to problem solve, work as teams and lead others, all essential skills for life.

Year 12 therefore experienced the benefits of Outdoor recreation for themselves at Upton Warren Outdoor Centre with some very memorable moments.

The photos below show the A-Level PE group trying their Outdoor and Adventurous skills at the Worcestershire Outdoor Education Centre in Upton Warren.

2 Jan 08 - Trip to see 'King Lear'

Year 12 English enrichment trip – 6 pupils, R Mason and J Nield.

King Lear played by Sir Ian McKellen. Cast included William Gaunt and Frances Barker.

Purpose of the trip: to enhance our knowledge of the play after reading the text. Amazing set and excellent special effects – brought the text to life. The hanging of the fool and Gloucester’s eye gauging were particularly effective. The theme of madness was well represented by key characters. Ian McKellen was captivating and engaged the audience effectively. Trevor Nunn had directed the play so that Cordelia had an unexpected role which challenged our existing views. The other two sisters were very vivid and memorable. The choreography of the sword fighting was amazing. The interpretation of the role of the fool made the character both funny and sad. We were all captivated and enthralled by the tragedy on the stage. An outstanding production which all the Girls enjoyed.
