Physical education develops pupil’s physical competence and confidence and enhances their ability when performing a range of activities. It promotes physical skilfulness, physical development and a knowledge of the body in action. Physical education provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and to face-up-to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. It promotes positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles.
The PE department using the School mission statement 'to encourage growth in mind, body and spirit' will aim to ensure that each student leaves St. Dominic's a better and healthier person. The PE department encourages growth in mind by encouraging independent learning and developing their talents so they reach their full potential in PE. The PE department encourages growth in body by providing opportunities for the students to be healthy aim to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, which they will take with them when they leave. The PE department will achieve growth in spirit by encouraging awareness of themselves and others and learn the value of both of them.
Pupils learn to think in different ways to suit a wide variety of creative, competitive and challenging activities. They learn how to plan, perform and evaluate actions, ideas and performances to improve their quality and effectiveness. Through this process pupils discover their aptitudes, abilities and preference and make choices about how to participate in lifelong physical activity.
